We have an exciting opportunity for a Private Client Tax Assistant Manager role in a London-based Accounting firm. This position within the Private Client Services Team involves delivering comprehensive UK tax compliance and advisory services to a diverse client base, including regional, London-based, and international clients. The Assistant Manager will play a key role in supporting and driving the growth of the team, with a particular emphasis on international tax matters concerning high-net-worth individuals and families, entrepreneurs, owner-managed businesses (OMBs), private equity clients, and trusts with varied asset profiles.

The core responsibility will be the management of a client portfolio, encompassing both tax compliance and advisory work—initially balanced, with a longer-term shift towards advisory-focused services. The role also includes supporting Directors and senior management in both client engagements and team oversight, as well as contributing to ad hoc special projects.

Additionally, the role involves active participation in business development activities and proposal work, collaborating with Directors and the wider management team to pursue opportunities from both existing and prospective clients.

Job Requirements:

  •  Holds a university degree and/or professional qualifications such as CTA or ACA (or equivalent).
  •  Proven experience following qualification.
  •  In-depth technical expertise in private client matters.
  •  Provides guidance and oversight to junior team members.
  • Actively supports, trains, mentors, and advises peers within their area of expertise.
  •  Proactively questions existing processes, promotes enhancements, and leads change initiatives.
  •  Takes ownership of both personal actions and the decisions and conduct of others.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Act as the main client contact within the firm, working closely with the Head of Tax to ensure responsive and proactive service delivery, regular updates, and consistent communication.
  • Assume full accountability for managing and delivering projects within your client portfolio.
  • Possess a strong grasp of complex technical issues affecting clients and deliver clear, actionable, and practical advice.
  • Oversee a diverse client portfolio, managing billing and cash collection in line with the firm’s policies.
  • Review and provide feedback on work completed by junior team members.
  • Communicate and correspond effectively with HMRC as required.
  • Ensure assignments are completed within budget, keeping both the client and senior management informed of any budget variances, and allocate work to staff to ensure balanced experience and development.
  • Adhere to the firm’s quality control standards throughout all engagements.
  • Identify technical risks and opportunities for added value, escalating to Directors or Managers as appropriate, while applying sound judgment within established guidelines.
